It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes modules are “deprecated”. That means they shouldn’t be used on your Drupal site. Most often, a developer will submit a patch to do a “quick fix” until something more permanent is created (patches go beyond just deprecated modules – there are lots of reasons a patch might be needed).
